Wedding Centerpiece Trends to Look Out for in 2016

This week we’re talking about what people tend to remember most about their table, after the food of course: the centerpiece. While the centerpiece is a wedding tradition as old as the rehearsal dinner, in 2016 the purpose a centerpiece holds has changed from a luxurious, floral-filled accent to your tables to something that is reflective of you and your significant other’s past, present, and future.

One way to communicate the history and future of your marriage is to mix materials, adding in metallic accents and symbolic trinkets like old-timey baseball cards (if you’re both baseball nuts) or non-floral accents like branches or fruit to add bits of color and texture. Or you can go no floral and instead have original centerpieces of your own created using different materials like plaster and metallics. If you still want to keep thing in the natural ballpark, consider going with something in the arboreal realm, perhaps a baby spruce or a lemon tree? Just be sure it all ties in with your overall color scheme, which brings us to…

Flower color and what’s in trend this season! Above everything, versatile and colorful Anemone are the flower of the year and they are available in a number of different hues. White ones with a dark center are currently the most popular, but their colorful petals have kept their modern appeal for decades. Now, while keeping your centerpiece limited to one flower or one color is quite common, let’s not forget the special pop that three perfectly mixed flowers and colors can give a table.

However, the monochromatic approach is also quite popular, and you can still achieve that luxurious feeling of a mixed bouquet by having your florist select three to five flowers of the same shade, while also giving your centerpieces that undeniable ombré effect.

Of course, if you really want to embrace your colorful side, go with bright oranges and reds and pair them with matching table linens to heighten the color explosion!

When it comes to vases or pots for your floral centerpiece, clear has been the dominant trend for a while now and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. A tall square lucite container with freshly picked callow lilies looks all the more luminous in a clear container, so consider playing around with shapes and sizes.

Of course, like many of our trend round-ups this year, more and more brides are splitting with heavy tradition to find a middle ground with their centerpieces to give them a more personal feel. And as one person has many facets, go big with making a unique centerpiece for every table. It might be time consuming but your guests are sure to appreciate the effort!
