Finding the Perfect Shoes for your Wedding Day

Continuing our piece-by-piece breakdown of the different elements of a bride’s wardrobe and the seasonal trends for summer 2016, we go from rings and accessories to shoes, those essential foot protectors that also can serve as the stage for some seriously impressive designs. Whether you prefer flats or heels, brand new or vintage designer, we walk you through the process of finding the right shoes for your wedding day outfit.

And that process begins with the most important element of all: comfort. While your wedding dress might be a little tight to flatter your figure or your make-up a little uncomfortable under the summer sun, finding a pair of shoes that feel as great as they look is essential and even if you ignore the rest of our advice, you will be glad not to be getting blisters or limping on your day. After all, properly made wedding shoes are designed to facilitate plenty of walking and includes additional padding to ensure you are comfortable.

Next up, consider what fabric you want in your shoe. While silk and satin are the two most popular materials for wedding shoes, they are by no means the only materials out there. Simply put, your dress and personal taste will be the deciding factors in your wedding shoes, but don’t forget: if you’ve chosen an unorthodox wedding dress, don’t hesitate to go with unorthodox footwear as well!

Also, when deciding on your wedding gown, it helps massively to have a rough idea of what shoes you will choose, if not already have them chosen. That way, if you select a dress with your shoes already picked, you can then have it altered to better match your shoes. Additionally, shoe color need not be the traditional white. After all, if you’re a funky bride, consider going with a bright and colorful pair of shoes. If you have a flair and passion for design, you might want to embellish your shoes with diamonds or a jeweled shoe clip.  On the other hand, a more traditional bride may want to ensure that they are the exact color of the dress.

Finally, we come to the eternal dilemma every bride faces: should you go with tasteful flats, breathtaking heels, or sexy heels? Again, comfort is key here. If you often wear a four-inch heel, then you should be comfortable in one on your wedding day. However, if you almost never wear heels, you likely do that because you don’t find them comfortable and that logic holds especially true on your big day. So while there is plenty of room for creativity and choice, never underestimate the power of comfort!
